Review JetBoil Zip

One of our goals when we go on our adventures is to cook and eat well, using equipment as light weight as our budget allows.

The JetBoil Zip is a basic integrated canister stove that can boil 500ml of water in less than 3 minutes. It has a 0.75-liter mug and weighs 300 grams.

We liked the compact size, and all components including the small gas canister are stored inside the mug.

How does it work ?

The JetBoil is a simple to use canister stove that uses 100 gram gas canisters. ( It can use larger gas canisters but theses will have to be stored separately.) The Zip model does not have a piezo igniter, so do not forget your lighter.

The stove is controlled by a small twist knob rather than wire, so con be a bit fiddly. The Rubber lid with vents and metal integrated vanes on the  bottom of the mug makes for a concentrated heat so boiling time is short and is improved with a wind shield.

The mug has a material cover that has a band for holding a lighter and spoon and opposite is a handle.

The basic function is to heat water to re-hydrate meals but you can buy a ring that will sit on the cooker that will enable you to cook with the stove.

As before the control knob can be fiddly so controlling the flame for simmering can be difficult and it is worth stirring the meal regularly to stop the meal being burnt and everything sticking to the pan.

Jetboil also offers other accessories, such as a coffee press, hanging kit, pot support, skillet, FluxRing cooking pot, and utensils.
